Even Better Obesity Drugs on the Horizon
June 24, 2025
Researchers are making rapid progress on more than a dozen new drugs for obesity that may prove even more powerful and easier to use than today’s revolutionary medications, The New York Times reports. The drugs, Laura A. Schmidt and Luc L. Hagenaars argue in Issues, are helping change a “central roadblock” to mitigating this health crisis: “the persistent, widespread cultural assumption that obesity is a problem of individuals rather than a societal problem of the food system.” This shift could “help redirect blame for obesity on the broader food system and ineffective food policies” and “generate policy momentum in healthier directions.”
